This story had been passed down over centuries by the indigenous people of Africa. Often whispered to be foolish and full of superstitions and blind faith few know that these tales are in fact based on truth.
This story is one of four great species that would soon get their reign over this world; not a scary story, but one of wisdom and strength. It was a common bed time story for children of the first and second kafo, told to them in hushed whispers by their parents while they lay on their pallets of earth. Or during their noonday meal, acted out by the wise old grandmothers who watched them throughout the day. Though the children believed the stories to be true; it was commonly thought by the adults to have been made up by the elders and passed to their separate tribes through the language of the drums. For often times when a child grows up, they lose their ability to see what things could have been- and to simply see them for what they are now.
African tribes of Arbor, Zulu, Herero and Kara praised these legendary stories. So when these tribesmen left their homelands in search of stories and gold; they passed their stories on with faith of what they believed to be true. Soon enough tribes and great lands of south east Asia, such as Thailand, Lao and Burma, began to know the stories and they once again passed them on to their children.
The great myth, the Islands of Kypuio.
The stories were what ever child wanted, what they wished to be true. Animals and Elements blended together to rage war or reign peace. Often times the children would act out their own versions of the stories- picking their favorite creature, the one they related to most of all.
The Hyena; known for their devilish laughing and often twisted nature, as well as their ability to bend the earth to their will. The African Wild Dog, known for their stealthy and adoring nature; benders of water and things pure. The Gray Wolf, the spirit of the Native Americans whose knowledge of the world around them made them wiser then most; these creature were the masters of air and cloud bending. The Maned Wolf, strange fox like creatures that preferred above all others to be alone, often times floating between the truth and lies; all to well known as fire breathers.
The elderly woman, the Grandmothers, of these numerous tribes passed on these stories for generations. They would explain, by acting out the stories, the great God of mammals had given all of her children an element, but they themselves must learn to use it. It took decades since the existence of these four mammals to learn, father teaching son teaching son what they knew until one day the first bender was born. Though in the beginning it was only one small yearling that had come to master what his forefathers had not; it was a combined effort of all the animals and pasts around him that allowed him to finally tap into what had been lying dormant in the world for decades.
Now, there is a different problem that these creatures need to face. All the different species and elements have come to live together on a small island; and though each breed has their own land to control and thrive on, often times it is no longer enough.
Some stay dormant, wishing for peace and prosperity; others wage war, wishing themselves to be stronger than their brothers. Each species wishes to see themselves ruling all of the island, but every species has a very different tactic in how to achieve such a goal. For years now the Maned Wolf and the Hyena have been living in a tense treaty, both believing the only way for them to survive and prosper the other races must be eliminated. While the Grey Wolves and African Wild Dogs see things much differently. Though they have different tactics in making their lives and lands peaceful- both believe that Peace Is the Answer. Nirvana has come, but it still seems that lives will be in the process to reach it. All the while another species was brewing in the shadows.
Yet the fox have never been brought into the Myth. Yet they were always in old folk tales, where as the Fox is the villian, the clever and mysterious creature whom hid in the shadows. As these vixen culprits have began showing they're true colors. In hidding, they have begun to learn their own element and power. Developing and using the inner darkness within them to bend or transform the shadows around them. Many of the foxes live as loners, yet slowly and surely they are raising and growing.
For now, things lie in their own paws. Their own decisions change the tides of battle, their own beliefs both hamper and benefit their individual species. But throughout each day, a single questions still remains.
What will become of them?
